Straight stairs

• It is to form access to the entrance, porch, etc.
• It is provided in places, where a staircase hall is long & narrow & the possibility of any other form of stair may not be practically possible.
• In this form of a stair, all the steps rise in the same direction.
• If too long, then an intermediate landing.

Dog-legged Stair

• It consists of two straight flights of steps with an abrupt turn between them.
• A level landing is placed across the two flights for the change of direction.
• This type of stair is useful where the width of the staircase hall is just sufficient to accommodate two widths of a stair.

Open-newel Stair

• It consists of two either including straight flights arranged in such a manner that a clear space knows a well occurs between the backward plus the forward flights.
• If the width of the staircase hall is such that that becomes difficult to accommodate the number of steps in the two flights externally exceeding the maximum allowable limit of steps in each flight a small flight of 3 to 6 steps may be provided beside the width of the hall.
• Moving this state, the standard short flight will have quarter space landing toward its either side.

Geometrical Stair

• Here is similar to the open-newel stair with the variation that the open well connecting the forward including the backward flight is curved.
• In this form of a stair, the variance in direction is obtained through winders.

Circular Stair

• A circular stair is commonly provided at the backside of a building for rendering access to its various floors for service purposes.
• Some circular stairs are generally constructed in R.C.C. casting iron, etc.
• In this form of stairs, all the steps have connected a newel post in the form of winders.

Bifurcated Stair

• Here type of stair is provided in modem civil buildings.
• During this type of stairs, the flights are so arranged that there is a wide flight at the start which is sub-divided within narrow flights through the mid-landing.
• Some two narrow flights cause from either side from the mid-landing.

Escalators

• A power-driven, inclined, continuous Stairway, used for raising or lowering passengers, is known as an escalator.
• The main components of an escalator are a steel trussed framework, handrails and an endless belt of steps.
• It is used in pairs.
• One is used for carrying people up and another one is used for carrying people down.
• It is recommended in places where the movement of large no. of people at a controlled rate in minimum available space is involved.
• Eg. Big apartments, malls, railway stations, airports, etc.

Ramp stairs

• That is a tilted plane joining pair floors.
• Commonly used for carrying machinery equipment, trolleys, cars to upper floors in multistoried and public buildings.
• It is very useful for handicapped peoples for easy access to the building.
• Dimension depends upon used.
• Withinside ramp, a minimum slope of 1 in 10 and a max of 1 in 6 is implemented.
• Its width limited to 2m.

Lift of stairs

• Lift is a type of vertical transport material that efficiently moves people or goods within the floor levels of a building oppositely different structure.
• Lift is commonly powered by electric motors that either drive traction cables either counterweight the system.
